No clowns here

Timmy sent this email to parents today. I am happy that he spelled his name correctly this time.

Dear Mt. Lebanon Parents,
As you may be aware, there have been rumors concerning unspecified threats made on social media represented by anonymous “clown” accounts that listed a Jefferson Elementary School among other schools in a recent post. As soon as we became aware of this information, we contacted the Mt. Lebanon Police Department. After looking into this, the MLPD believe this is a hoax and that no credible threat exists toward any of our schools. The MLPD also indicated that the Jefferson Elementary School referenced in the social media post is located in the eastern part of the state due to the names of the other schools mentioned in the post.
Out of an abundance of caution, the MLPD plans to increase their presence around our schools over the next few days and our staff will remain vigilant as well.
As always, the safety and security of our students is my top priority. We have strong safety procedures in place and work closely with our partners in the Mt.  Lebanon Police Department to maintain a safe and healthy school environment for our students and staff.
We will continue to keep you informed of any emerging issues. Please feel free to contact your child’s principal or me if you have any concerns.
Sincerely,
Timothy J. Steinhauer, Ed.D.
Superintendent of School

I appreciate all the emails sent to me today by Lebo Citizens readers. Some of the comments I received:
  • Is Jody Maddock in town?
  • I can’t believe it. Tim says that it is okay to contact HIM with any concerns. That’s unusual.
  • Yes, Tim, the safety and security of our students is your top priority. Of course.
  • The only clowns I see are at school board and municipal meetings.
Timmy did fail to inform us of these emerging, but tragic issues. One clown was almost hit because he was unaware of the new Look Up Lebo campaign. Fortunately, his side kick saved him.

These clowns weren't as fortunate.

Good one. I missed that one. Poor Timmy. He has so much trouble sending emails. At least he spelled his name correctly this time.

Oh, there are clowns here. There MUST be! The police are posting about a doorbell that also functions as a surveillance camera and they even have a discount code for residents. Watch out, Lebo!

Technology is a great thing…right? At the MLPD, we think so! We encourage everyone to take advantage of as many crime prevention tools as possible to help keep our community safe. One of the best technological tools currently available is the use of video systems that can view and record suspicious or criminal activity in our neighborhoods. MLPD officers have been able to use video surveillance to assist in numerous investigations and it has helped solve many crimes.
Recently, the MLPD had the opportunity to test a Video Doorbell System from Ring and we were impressed by its capabilities, quality video and simple set up. We also like that Ring has a simple mission to reduce crime in neighborhoods.
Please do not take this the wrong way, we are not advertising for Ring and we do not specifically endorse any particular product. We encourage our community members to do their own research regarding the various crime prevention tools that are currently available.
That being said, we did want to make our residents aware of a special discount being offered by Ring to members of our community. Ring has shared a promo code for products purchased on their website - Ring.com. The special promo code will give residents $25.00 off their doorbell purchase. The promo code for Mt. Lebanon residents is: 41lebo. All Lowercase. This promo code can be applied to the Ring Video Doorbell, Video Doorbell Pro, and Stick Up Cam.
You can also use this link to access their products page with the $25 discount applied: ring.com/p/41lebo
In case you don't know what Ring is, here is a quick description:
"Ring Video Doorbell connects to your home Wi-Fi network and sends real-time notifications to your smart phone or tablet when someone is at your door. Using the free Ring App, which is available for Apple, Android, and Windows 10 devices, you can see an HD Video stream of the person at your door and speak to them using two-way audio communication. Ring Doorbell can alert you when someone presses the button on your doorbell or when motion is detected. Ring Doorbells operate on battery power or can be connected to your home doorbell wiring."
Additional information about Ring Video Doorbells can be found at this link: https://ring.com/neighborhoods
Please feel free to share this information with your Lebo friends and neighbors!
Thank you!
