Where are the other commissioners? Are they afraid of public comment?

That is a good question Constance!
WHERE ARE THE OTHER COMMISSIONERS?

As far as missing this panel discussion -- here's a brief preview for those with more productive things to do with their time.

'I'm OK with turf.'
'I'm OK with turf.'
'I'm OK with turf.'
and
'I'm OK with turf.'

Fascinating that the panel will include an SAB advocate of artificial turf, but no one who questions the project at any level. This is advocacy, not informational. Mr. Bendel is not as smart as the people he is trying to fool.

Elaine: What panel "discussion"? There will only be a Mitch Miller-style sing-along.

I hope J. T. Sauer is more informed this time. At the April 24 Not for the Public meeting at the concession stand (yes, the one with He Who Shall Not Be Named) residents were extremely frustrated with Jim's inability to answer their questions.

Tonight's pep rally is really just another money maker for Gateway. I don't see how this is going to cost Mt. Lebanon an additional $11,000.

When the bids are opened on June 19 and we see that FieldTurf is the lowest bidder, perhaps that is when we will find out who the corporate sponsors are and who will be immortalized in bronze and marble. I mean, if Gateway made a cash donation of $4000 last year with the promise for another donation in 2014, we already know that their name will be on the monument. Do you think FieldTurf will be another corporate sponsor by committing to the non-municipal portion of $250,000?

This is bullsh-it. Way to go, Commissioners. You have once again demonstrated your ability to out- sleaze the school board. You all must be so proud.

Note that cost does not appear in subject list. Wonder if it will be presented?

My advice for what it is worth... don't attend tonight's little game.
Let the four speakers play with themselves and have the media cover it.
We already know what they're going to say. They've already indicate there won't be any open questions fromthe audience... so why bother attending. Think you're going to learn something new?! Not a chance.
If protest you must, congregate outside and enjoy a chat with your like minded neighbors. Bring your No artificial signs or stickers so the media has some photo ops to go along with their story on the $11,000 waste.

So tonight's panel is going to be a diversity of opinion, Mt Lebanon style. No surprises there.

Maybe they could trot out some crying kids in sports uniforms.

As I watched several heavy rains pass through the area those pro-turf lawn signs came to mind.
You know the ones that read "Let Our Kids Play."
Now wouldn't you assume these turfers would be pretty savy sports enthusiast - right?
OK, if so take a look at the sports represented on the sign... soccer, football, baseball and lacrosse.
Tell me, who plays baseball "even when it rains?"

Idiots!

Constance,
The commissioners are probably afraid of being quoted by the press and the citizens if they attend this meeting.

It has been exclaimed that artificial turf will increase the amount of game time at Wildcat and Middle Field(s).

This is interesting since here is one community's weather policy concering their artificial turf.

http://www.dubuqueayso.org/WeatherPolicies.aspx

"Standing Water/Soggy Fields
After periods of extended rain, the fields at the Soccer Complex may become saturated or even super-saturated resulting in standing water within various locations at the complex. Since standing water can result in awkward footing and/or slippery conditions that might result in player/parent injury, soggy field conditions pose a safety risk. Additionally, since field turf is easily torn when soggy field conditions are present (requiring additional and expensive spot maintenance), games are generally canceled until soggy fields have had a chance to drain."

Player injury, easily torn field turf due to soggy conditions... sounds like that 60% increase in game slots will be hard to achieve!!!

Another issue, don't they wear metal cleates in high school baseball? They are taboo on artificial issue.
